I never expect to do very well for salmon in the Sacramento River before at least mid-September but I still try to get out there on a fairly regular basis regardless. In the past I have caught salmon in August and my sister even caught one the week of the opener, but it’s not the norm for me.
I have been out for Salmon four times so far, the last time being August 31st, with no action whatsoever.
The last trip out the water was still warm, 71 degrees, but this time I was marking quite a few more fish (I believe salmon, but it very well could be something else).
I’m still going to grind away because as they say “you can’t catch them from the couch” and also, who doesn’t like to be the first one out of your fishing buddies to land a salmon?
